Adoptable Pets of the Week

Pet of the Week--"Riley"--ID# 958502
Riley
"Riley"--ID# 958502
Riley is a beautiful hound who is about 1 or 2 years old.  He was a stray who had been hit by a car when he was brought to the shelter.  It was a minor collision, and he is ok.  Lady Luck was definitely watching over him that day!  Riley is a good boy who likes to entertain himself with toys--he LOVES toys!!  He also loves playing with other dogs, being outside, and sniffing all around!  He needs to learn to trust people, but he is very treat-motivated which should make that a breeze.  He is going to make some lucky family a very loyal companion. Is he meant to be yours?  Make an appointment today to meet this sweetie! ♥

Riley is currently staying at the Regional Center for Animal Control and Protection and is in danger of euthanasia.  If you are interested in saving his life by adopting him or if you are a rescue organization, please contact the RCACP Front Desk at (540) 344-4922 Ext. 2 or 6 with his ID number--958502.

Please note that all meet and greets with RCACP pets are by appointment only. Before adoption, all pets are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, heartworm tested, and microchipped.

Pet of the Week--"Levi"--ID# 960860
Levi
"Levi"--ID #960860
Remember the old cat food commercials featuring a cat named Morris?  Well, I'd like you to meet Levi, a Morris look-alike!  Levi is a handsome 11 month old kitty with TV commercial looks who came to the shelter as an owner release.  He is wise and mature beyond his young age.  He is a shy sort of guy at first, but he loves people!  This is a calm fellow who would make good use of your windowsill watching the birds and squirrels.  Make an appointment to come down and meet this awesome boy today!

If you are interested in saving his life by adopting him or if you are a rescue organization, please contact the RCACP Front Desk at (540) 344-4922 Ext. 2 or 6 with his ID number--960860.

Who is RCACP?

The Regional Center for Animal Control & Protection (RCACP) is an open intake facility accepting stray and lost animals from animal control officers and the public, as well as owner relinquished pets, from the City and County of Roanoke, the County of Botetourt, and the Town of Vinton. The RCACP posts pictures of lost or strayed animals on their website, www.rcacp.org, to make it possible to search for a lost pet online. The website also contains a lost and found database that allows someone who has lost a pet, or someone who has found a pet, to post information on the animal to help reunite the pet with his/her family.

Adopting a Friend

Once an animal has passed his/her required holding time at the facility to allow the owner to reclaim him/her, the RCACP works with the Roanoke Valley SPCA, rescue groups and other shelters to place available animals in suitable homes. Animals who are housed at the RCACP that are posted on the Petfinder.com website have been deemed available and can be seen by visiting the center Monday - Friday between 11:30 - 5:30 pm and Saturday 11:30 - 4:00 pm. Once an adoption request is placed, an appointment will be made to complete the adoption through the RVSPCA. Each will be spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped before being adopted. To place an adoption or rescue request, or for more complete information, please email us at  or call (540) 344-4922. Be sure to give us the animal's ID number to assure your name is on the right pet.
