“A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he (she) loves himself (herself).” --Josh Billings

Dog of the Week--"Charlie James"--ID#1103963
Charlie James
"Charlie James"--ID#1103963
Charlie James is a sweet two year old Jack Russell Terrier mix who is in the market for a "furever" home.  He came to the shelter as an owner surrender when his owner had to move away and could not take him.  He is sad that he lost his home, but is now focused on finding a great "furever" family.  Charlie James is a real sweetheart who loves people!  He is medium energy and is very gentle.  Charlie James already knows some commands such as Come, Down, and Sit!  This is a smart boy who wants the chance to learn more commands and tricks.  Please come down and meet Charlie James today--he'll be waiting for you!

Charlie James is currently staying at the Regional Center for Animal Care and Protection (RCACP) and is in danger of euthanasia. If you are interested in saving this pet’s life by adopting, please contact the RCACP Adoption Coordinator at 540-344-4922, ext. 314 or email Roxy Brown at .

Pet of the Week--"Cotton"--ID#1105621
Cotton
"Cotton"--ID#1105621
Have you ever considered adopting a pet rabbit?  Well, here's your chance!  Four year old Cotton came to the shelter by way of owner surrender and is currently looking for her "furever" home.  She is a Rex rabbit with velvety tri-color fur and gorgeous eyes.  Rex rabbits are generally recognized as one of the gentler breeds of rabbits and are usually an excellent choice for families with children, so long as the children are educated on proper handling.  Rabbits love people and many can be trained to do tricks, use a litter box, and to come when called!  Come on down and meet sweet Cotton today and let this beautiful girl show you how much fun having a rabbit around can be!

Who is RCACP?

The Regional Center for Animal Control & Protection (RCACP) is an open intake facility accepting stray and lost animals from animal control officers and the public, as well as owner relinquished pets, from the City and County of Roanoke, the County of Botetourt, and the Town of Vinton. The RCACP posts pictures of lost or strayed animals on their website, www.rcacp.org, to make it possible to search for a lost pet online. The website also contains a lost and found database that allows someone who has lost a pet, or someone who has found a pet, to post information on the animal to help reunite the pet with his/her family.

Adopting a Friend

Once an animal has passed his/her required holding time at the facility to allow the owner to reclaim him/her, the RCACP works with the Roanoke Valley SPCA, rescue groups and other shelters to place available animals in suitable homes. Animals who are housed at the RCACP that are posted on the Petfinder.com website have been deemed available and can be seen by visiting the center Monday - Friday between 11:30 - 5:30 pm and Saturday 11:30 - 4:00 pm. Once an adoption request is placed, an appointment will be made to complete the adoption through the RVSPCA. Each will be spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped before being adopted. To place an adoption or rescue request, or for more complete information, please email us at  or call (540) 344-4922. Be sure to give us the animal's ID number to assure your name is on the right pet.
