Adoptable Pets of the Week
"Time spent with cats is never wasted"! --Sigmund Freud

Cat of the Week--"Patches"--ID#1190442
Patches
"Patches"--ID#1190442
Meet Sweet Patches!  This gal just has a lot to say! A sucker for a hefty helping of canned food and treats, she will easily surrender her love to you. Patches likes to get her fellow feline friends in the shelter going. When treats are handed out, she gets the whole crowd meowing for more. Looking for that snuggly cat? This is the one you want, especially if you’re looking for a good kitty conversation over a shared bowl of milk or some cat nip!

Patches is searching for a forever home and family. Come down and meet this cutie today! Patches is currently staying at the Regional Center for Animal Care and Protection (RCACP).
As an open intake public shelter, we are often faced with difficult decisions to make space. If you are interested in saving this pet’s life by adopting, please contact Roxy Brown at (540) 344-4922 or by email.

You may submit an adoption application by email. The application can be found at www.rcacp.org. Adoption requests are also accepted by telephone: (540) 344-4922. You must submit an application along with your request to hold your place in the order requests are received. Before adoption, all pets are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, heartworm tested, and microchipped.  The RCACP's hours for adoption are 11:30 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Saturday. Thank you for saving a life!

Dog of the Week--"Sweeney Tyson"--ID#1040930
Sweeney Tyson ('Tyson')
"Sweeney Tyson"--ID#1040930
Sweeney Tyson is our dog of the week! Sweeney came to RCACP for the first time back in November 2013. He was in rough shape, and at the time, did not seem to have a very good chance at getting adopted. To his luck, he had an angel looking out for him who did not want to see anything happen to poor Sweeney. He was adopted into a family where he was helped medically and loved. They renamed him Tyson, hence “Sweeney Tyson”. To his misfortune and through no fault of his own, he was returned to RCACP in June 2015. He came up positive for heart worm back in March 2014 and was treated for it – Re-tested by RCACP staff upon returning, he recently tested negative for heart worm and is looking really good! Sweeney is good with other dogs and also with children.

Sweeney Tyson
is searching for a "furever" home and family.  Come down and meet this sweetie today!  Sweeney Tyson is currently staying at the Regional Center for Animal Care and Protection (RCACP).  As an open intake public shelter, we are often faced with difficult decisions to make space. Pick Me!

Who is RCACP?

The Regional Center for Animal Control & Protection (RCACP) is an open intake facility accepting stray and lost animals from animal control officers and the public, as well as owner relinquished pets, from the City and County of Roanoke, the County of Botetourt, and the Town of Vinton. The RCACP posts pictures of lost or strayed animals on their website, www.rcacp.org, to make it possible to search for a lost pet online. The website also contains a lost and found database that allows someone who has lost a pet, or someone who has found a pet, to post information on the animal to help reunite the pet with his/her family.

Adopting a Friend

Once an animal has passed his/her required holding time at the facility to allow the owner to reclaim him/her, the RCACP works with the Roanoke Valley SPCA, rescue groups and other shelters to place available animals in suitable homes. Animals who are housed at the RCACP that are posted on the Petfinder.com website have been deemed available and can be seen by visiting the center Monday - Friday between 11:30 - 5:30 pm and Saturday 11:30 - 4:00 pm. Once an adoption request is placed, an appointment will be made to complete the adoption through the RVSPCA. Each will be spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped before being adopted. To place an adoption or rescue request, or for more complete information, please email us at  or call (540) 344-4922. Be sure to give us the animal's ID number to assure your name is on the right pet.
