Adoptable Pets of the Week
"Time spent with cats is never wasted." --Sigmund Freud

Cat of the Week--"Princess"--ID#1125150
Princess
"Princess"--ID#1125150
Purr! My name is Princess. I am a two year old girl who came to the shelter when my owner could no longer care for me.  I miss having a home of my very own.  I am a sweet girl who loves to play.  Do you have some kitty toys I could play with?  I also love watching the birds fly around outside.  Do you have a nice window where I could sit and watch the birds fly by?  If you take me home, I promise to be a good girl and also to keep your lap warm on the cold winter evenings!  Come down and take me home today! I hope we can spend Thanksgiving together. My adoption fee will be waived (FREE!) with your approved application. I'll be here waiting to meet you!

PS:  My shelter is having a special event coming up on November 26, 2014. It is called "Empty the Shelter for the Holidays". The people who work here are going to stay late that night until 10 PM in hopes of allowing people extra time to stop by before the Thanksgiving holiday to adopt a pet like me. During the event, adopters will be able to name their own price for their new pet!!  Adoption fees for cats are always waived (FREE) no matter when you come to adopt!

Princess is one of the many beautiful cats and kittens who are waiting to find their "furever" homes at Regional Center for Animal Care and Protection (RCACP) and their off-site center at Petsmart Franklin Road in Roanoke.  Stop by or make an appointment to meet them today and find out just what Sigmund Freud meant when he said, "Time spent with cats is never wasted"!

As an open intake public shelter, we are often faced with difficult decisions to make space.  If you are interested in saving this pet’s life by adopting, please contact the RCACP Adoption Coordinator at (540) 344-4922, ext. 314 or email Richie Brown at . If you are a rescue organization, please contact the RCACP Rescue Coordinator at (540) 344-4922, with the ID number.

You may submit an adoption application by email. The application can be found at www.rcacp.org. Adoption requests are also accepted by telephone: (540) 344-4922. You must submit an application along with your request to hold your place in the order requests are received. Before adoption, all pets are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, heartworm tested, and microchipped.
The RCACP's hours for adoption are 11:30 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Saturday. Thank you for saving a life!

Dog of the Week--"Freckles"--ID#1122563
Freckles
"Freckles"--ID#1122563
Woof! Woof!  I'm Freckles.  See my little freckled feet?  I guess that is how I got my name!  I am a year old hound mix.  I am a little bit timid and scared here.  You see, the shelter can be a big, scary place for a small fry like me. I am a good girl who would just love to find her "furever" home in time for the holidays.  I don't really like cats or other dogs, so I would want to be your one and only!  I would love to go to a quiet home where I can blossom.  Could I be the one for you?  Come and meet me today to find out!

Pick Me!

Who is RCACP?

The Regional Center for Animal Control & Protection (RCACP) is an open intake facility accepting stray and lost animals from animal control officers and the public, as well as owner relinquished pets, from the City and County of Roanoke, the County of Botetourt, and the Town of Vinton. The RCACP posts pictures of lost or strayed animals on their website, www.rcacp.org, to make it possible to search for a lost pet online. The website also contains a lost and found database that allows someone who has lost a pet, or someone who has found a pet, to post information on the animal to help reunite the pet with his/her family.

Adopting a Friend

Once an animal has passed his/her required holding time at the facility to allow the owner to reclaim him/her, the RCACP works with the Roanoke Valley SPCA, rescue groups and other shelters to place available animals in suitable homes. Animals who are housed at the RCACP that are posted on the Petfinder.com website have been deemed available and can be seen by visiting the center Monday - Friday between 11:30 - 5:30 pm and Saturday 11:30 - 4:00 pm. Once an adoption request is placed, an appointment will be made to complete the adoption through the RVSPCA. Each will be spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped before being adopted. To place an adoption or rescue request, or for more complete information, please email us at  or call (540) 344-4922. Be sure to give us the animal's ID number to assure your name is on the right pet.
