Adoptable Pets of the Week
“A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he (she) loves himself (herself).” --Josh Billings

Dog of the Week--"Kirby"--ID#1154906
Kirby
"Kirby"--ID#1154906
The pot o' gold at the end of the rainbow has been found!  It's Kirby!!

My name is Kirby, and I am looking for a permanent place to call home after arriving here at the shelter as a stray.  I am a Jack Russell Terrier who's about two years old--way too young of a little guy to be out in the big world on my own!  I love people, and I'm very playful.  I'd love to have a home with lots of toys to play with and someone who will teach me to do some cool tricks!  I hope you will consider coming down and meeting me today!  I will be here waiting for you.

Woof,  Kirby (") (")

Kirby is searching for a "furever" home and family.  Come down and meet this cutie today!  Kirby is currently staying at the Regional Center for Animal Care and Protection (RCACP).  As an open intake public shelter, we are often faced with difficult decisions to make space. If you are interested in saving this pet’s life by adopting, please contact the RCACP Adoption Coordinator at (540) 344-4922, ext. 308, or by email: . If you are a rescue organization, please contact the RCACP Rescue Coordinator at (540) 344-4922, ext. 300 or by email:  , with the ID number.

You may submit an adoption application by email. The application can be found at www.rcacp.org. Adoption requests are also accepted by telephone: (540) 344-4922. You must submit an application along with your request to hold your place in the order requests are received. Before adoption, all pets are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, heartworm tested, and microchipped.  The RCACP's hours for adoption are 11:30 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Saturday. Thank you for saving a life!

"Time spent with cats is never wasted"! --Sigmund Freud

Cat of the Week--"Mr. Smith"--ID#1155607
Mr. Smith
"Mr. Smith"--ID#1155607

MEEEEOW!  My name is Mr. Smith.  I am here at the Regional Center waiting for someone to come and pick me!   I came here as an owner surrender when my person had to move into a nursing home.  I miss my person so much and am sad, and I don't understand why we had to be separated.  I am a really good boy who does not cause any trouble.  I have lots of love left to give to my future "furever" family because I am only a year old.  Everyone here always says that I'm sweet, shy, kind, laidback, and loving.

Do you need some good luck in your life? I sure could use some in mine!  If so, come down to the shelter and meet me!  I will bring you lots of love and good luck if you adopt me.  Your first gift of good fortune is that my adoption fee will be waived (Yes, FREE!) with your approved application.  Please come and meet me today!

Purrrrrrrrr, Mr. Smith (") (")

PS:  Maybe we can take a vacation together to Washington sometime...  I've heard that "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" is pretty good.  ;-)

Mr. Smith is one of the many beautiful cats and kittens who are waiting to find their "furever" homes at Regional Center for Animal Care and Protection (RCACP) or their off-site center at Petsmart on Franklin Road in Roanoke.  Stop by or make an appointment to meet them today and find out just what Sigmund Freud meant when he said, "Time spent with cats is never wasted"!

Pick Me!

Who is RCACP?

The Regional Center for Animal Control & Protection (RCACP) is an open intake facility accepting stray and lost animals from animal control officers and the public, as well as owner relinquished pets, from the City and County of Roanoke, the County of Botetourt, and the Town of Vinton. The RCACP posts pictures of lost or strayed animals on their website, www.rcacp.org, to make it possible to search for a lost pet online. The website also contains a lost and found database that allows someone who has lost a pet, or someone who has found a pet, to post information on the animal to help reunite the pet with his/her family.

Adopting a Friend

Once an animal has passed his/her required holding time at the facility to allow the owner to reclaim him/her, the RCACP works with the Roanoke Valley SPCA, rescue groups and other shelters to place available animals in suitable homes. Animals who are housed at the RCACP that are posted on the Petfinder.com website have been deemed available and can be seen by visiting the center Monday - Friday between 11:30 - 5:30 pm and Saturday 11:30 - 4:00 pm. Once an adoption request is placed, an appointment will be made to complete the adoption through the RVSPCA. Each will be spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped before being adopted. To place an adoption or rescue request, or for more complete information, please email us at  or call (540) 344-4922. Be sure to give us the animal's ID number to assure your name is on the right pet.
