The Town will provide leaf collection services to residents this year, beginning on November 4, 2013. Collection will include both loose and bagged leaves. A map and schedule will be published in the Vinton Messenger and Town of Vinton website. As in past years, two loose leaf collection cycles will be performed throughout Town. Each cycle takes about 2 weeks depending upon weather and quantity of loose leaves placed out by residents. Bagged leaf collection will begin at the same time and coincide with the normal bulk collection schedule.
Loose leaves should be raked to the curb or edge of pavement. Leaves should not block streets or sidewalks as this can pose a safety hazard to pedestrians and motorists. Please rake leaves to the curb as close as possible to the expected collection date. This is to minimize leaves blowing on to streets, neighboring properties, or into stormwater collection structures. Leaves in stormwater inlets can create backups and flooding conditions in neighborhoods, possibly causing damage to private or Town properties. Additionally, as leaves begin to fall; small quantities can easily be mulched during normal lawn mowing activity. Mulched leaves benefit lawns and gardens, so this practice eliminates the need to rake or bag when the leaves first begin to fall. As the collection schedule approaches and is underway, large leaf quantities can be raked or bagged. Last, when raking loose leaves to the curb please be careful not to include rocks or large pieces of wood as this can cause equipment damage and schedule delays.
The Town of Vinton appreciates in advance, your patience and cooperation during the collection period.
