Design is now underway for a project to replace the low water bridge on Walnut Avenue at 5th Street. One of the initial design field activities is collecting underground geotechnical information along the area where the new bridge and approaches are to be constructed.
Starting on or about October 24th, geotechnical boring work will begin. A drilling rig will be on site to perform the borings. Engineers and workers will be in the area when the work is being performed. Work will be performed over the next 30 to 45 days, intermittently, with durations ranging from one or two days to a week or more. Work will be performed Monday through Friday under most circumstances.
No street or lane closures are anticipated at this time. Nearly all the work will be performed in locations adjacent to Walnut Ave. Some borings will be taken along the southern edge of Walnut, just to the east of Fifth Street. Signs and cones will be placed as needed to alert motorists.
We appreciate your cooperation in this matter and urge motorists to exercise extreme caution when driving through the area. Please keep your eyes on the road, not on the drill rig and workers.
